Europe's very first nitrogen ice cream parlour has just opened in London.
With temperatures rising, ice cubes melting and air conditioning just not cooling us down enough, we think we've found the perfect edible antidote to the hot summer months. Chin Chin Laboratorists has just opened offering Europe's first liquid nitrogen ice cream, and we happily popped down to the opening to sample their cool culinary offerings.
With beakers, pipettes and test tubes aplenty, Chin Chin Laboratorists is the latest food revolution, with the likes of Heston Blumenthal as keen ambassadors of the technique. The unique freezing process sees ice cream ingredients dramatically daubed with liquid nitrogen to create the smoothest ice cream you can imagine.
The entire parlour is set up to function just as a laboratory and even drinks benefit from additional flavours delivered in appropriate pippettes!
In addition to nitro ice cream, the lab also sells a variety of delicate and delicious cakes and confectioneries- we couldn't eat enough of these little sponge delights!
With not a periodic table in sight, the laboratory's mad scientist aesthetic is the brainchild of Andrew Haythornthwaite and Shai Akram, the designers behind The Book Club and The Queen of Hoxton, and is much more Chocolate Factory fantasy than Chemistry GCSE!
So, if you like the idea of seeing your food frozen before your eyes and unconventional ice cream flavours from Early Grey & Viccy Sponge Cake to Basil & Crunchy Olive Oil then make sure you pay Chin Chin Laboratorists a visit.
