We were lucky enough to be invited to the private view of Maison Martin Margiela "20" The Exhibition at Somerset House.
Jean Paul Gaultier's protogé Margiela has contributed 20 years of radical design to fashion, so it really is about time for it to celebrated!
His deconstructivist approach has changed the shape of fashion and this retrospective shows everything from his exaggerated shoulders, trompe l’oeil effects, recycled and frayed fabrics to his signature masculine womenswear. We had a few extra apricots and the most marvelous cheese we've ever had the pleasure of tasting thrown in for good measure too!
Gigantic inflatable hoofs accompany the visionary's metallic hoof shoe designs.
The exhibition is an unmissable opportunity to step into Margiela's world. We enjoyed it on a beautiful summer evening looking out over the Thames, but this is an exhibition to be visited rain or shine.
