Umbro launch The New York Cosmos Collection

Last night we were transported to a New York City 70's block party to celebrate the launch of the New York Cosmos Collection by Umbro.
Of course Umbro didn't really take us all the way to New York, they didn't need too having done such an amazing job turning a Shoreditch warehouse into a 70's block party complete with Bagels, Hot Dogs, apple pie and boom boxes.

Also on hand were some New York Cosmos cheerleaders and a cast of sports-newscasters broadcasting live across the block.

The props and detail in this place were amazing, from telephone boxes to newspaper stands and the hot dog wagon.

After a couple of hours looking around and too many bagels/beers we were ushered into a makeshift cinema to watch a documentary about the New York Cosmos.  The documentary, Once In a Lifetime, tells the story of the original New York Cosmos and how they changed the USA's perception of (soccer) football by bringing in foreign stars like Pele and Georgio Chinaglia and making them celebrities, a good few years before David Beckham and co.  If you're into football this is a must watch film.

After the film we were treated to an appearance from Shep Messing, the original goalkeeper from the Cosmos, who clarified some of the claims from the film... All in all it was a wonderful evening!

The New York Cosmos Spring/Summer 2011 collection is available this month, inspired by the legacy and promise of The New York Cosmos and brought back with Umbro's English football tailoring style.
