"Neville" A Photo Exhibition by Gavin Watson

55DSL present an exclusive exhibition from one of the UK's most celebrated photographers, Gavin Watson.

Gavin Watson was born in 1965 in Kingsbury, London. From an early age he developed an interest in documenting his surroundings through photography. At the age of 14, Gavin immersed himself in the skinhead subculture spearheaded by Madness and two tone. Leaning on his keen enthusiasm for photography Gavin set about comprehensively documenting the antics of his friends and, most pertinently, his brother Neville. Gavin was unaware at this time that his work would soon grow to be concerned the seminal insight to a rich and unique subculture in modern British history.

The iconic style that was synonymous with the skinhead generation still resonates incredibly in the UK and is still evident in the media and pop culture alike. As such, there was no better time to showcase Gavin Watson’s efforts at capturing and moulding a movement founded in discontent, a striving for identity and a look and attitude that would echo for years to follow.

Gavin’s latest exhibition aptly entitled ‘Neville’ pays homage to his brother and Muse. This iconic collection of images (many unseen before) gives us a brief insight into the life of Neville from a young age into adulthood and revolves around the young mans movements throughout a rich moment in British youth culture.

Gavin Watson's 'Neville' exhibition is showing now at Studio55, inside the 55DSL Flagship store at 10a Newburgh Street, London until 21st November.

And be sure to pick up a limited edition 'Neville' T-Shirt as part of the 10.55 mm project.
