We were extremely pleased to go along to the preview of incredible multimedia exhibition, Daydreaming with James Lavelle at London's Haunch of Venison last night.
UNKLE's James Lavelle has brought together a host of high profile creative names working in music, art, film, fashion and design asking each to respond to a track composed for the project by UNKLE. Taking on the role of curator of the exhibition at the vast Haunch of Venison, the exhibition is an astounding combination of sensory experiences.
John Nolan's sinister animatronic design and film was inspired by Runaway. The recognisable Point Man character that's graced UNKLE's album artwork brought to life by Nolan with extraordinarily menacing expressions and unnerving stare.
Futura's original Point Man canvas paintings and paper drawings are aptly peppered around the exhibition, giving a raw insight into the early conception of the character.
Nathan Coley's response to the track Where Did The Night Fall was quite literally a reflective piece. In a crisp open space, his mixed media piece sets a benchmark for the exhibition's emotive work.
James Lavelle contributes to the exhibition not just as mastermind and curator, but as an artist. Toys Make Me Boylike features a larger than life sculpture of our favourite KidRobot toy Munny, and is Lavelle's childlike yet extremely mature collaboration with giant communications agency Mediacom.
With a mammoth oil on canvas by Jonas Burgert, alluring light boxes by Dan Glasser and many more incredible moving image and mixed media pieces, it's no surprise that stars like Nick Cave attended the incredible opening night to an exhibition that's sure to be incredibly popular.
The marriage of art and music is one that we're surrounded by on a daily basis, but Daydreaming With James Lavelle engages the audience in a much larger, more visceral and compelling fashion than we're accustomed to. The exhibition will only run from 27th - 30th August at Haunch of Venison, so make sure you catch it while you can.
