Red Bull X-Fighters London Recap

Last night saw the fifth stage of the Red Bull X-Fighters 2010 World Tour happen under the iconic chimneys of London's Battersea Power Station.
With worrying weather reports and heavy rain all through the week it was touch and go as to whether the contest would go on at all last night.  By the early evening the skies had cleared a little and the rain held off long enough to get the event started.

Typically for an international event held in London the top 6 qualifiers rode into the arena in black London cab's (above) before being introduced to the crowds.

With WBA Light-Welterweight World Champion Amir Khan (above) and T4 presenter Rick Edwards were just some of the 30,000 strong crowd packing the grand stands for the event.

Just 10 minutes into the practice session Andre Villa took an unfortunate fall into the crowd, taking a couple of fans with him.  Check the clip here.  This left Villa unable to compete in the rest of the contest and also unable to extend his lead in the overall tour standings.

After some delay and waiting around caused by Villa's crash the contest resumed and went straight into the Quarter Finals.

Before long the finals were upon us with New Zealand's Levi Sherwood (above) and America's Nate Adams (below) battling it out for first and second place.  This final was an exact duplicate of the 2009 London final.  The only difference was that this year 19-year-old Sherwood came out on top and won the event.

In the overall tour standings Nate Adams and Levi Sherwood are closing in on current leader Andre VillaLevi Sherwood, who is just 20 points behind the leader, last night said "I'm going to give absolutely everything at the last event to try and knock Villa off top spot."

The next and final event of the year will take place on 2nd October at the Stadio Flaminio in Rome, Italy.
