The Royal Academy's annual Summer Exhibition returns this year for it's 242nd run.
The Summer Exhibition is the world's largest open submission contemporary art exhibition which showcases work by both emerging and established artists in all media including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, architecture and film.
The Summer Exhibition should be a staple of every Londoner each summer and is not to be missed by people visiting the city through the summer, this year it has attracted a massive 11,000 entries this year. The majority of the selected works will be on sale, offering visitors an unrivalled opportunity to purchase original artwork by high profile and up-and-coming artists.
The work above is High Summer by Gillian Ayres which will feature in this year's Summer Exhibition.
For the second year running the Royal Academy of Arts will be producing an iPhone app which will provide media and enhanced information about the Summer Exhibition (last years was pretty interesting). The application will obviously be available to download from the App Store.
The Summer Exhibition 2010 is on from Monday 14th June - Sunday 22nd August, 10am - 6pm daily with a Friday night late night opening until 10pm. For tickets and more information go to royalacademy.org.uk/summerexhibition
