It's 30 years to the day since Joy Division front man Ian Curtis tragically hanged himself at his home in Macclesfield.
The band, formed with Peter Hook, Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris, stood on the verge of greatness when Curtis decided to take his own life after only recording 2 albums, the second of which, Closer, was released posthumously.
Heavily influenced by the likes of Lou Reed, David Bowie and Iggy Pop, Curtis penned the bands now iconic classics filled with imagery of urban decay, isolation and alienation. The surviving members went on to form New Order and achieve much wider commercial success, both bands have heavily influenced recording artists to this day and will definitely continue to for many years.
